The Challenges ESLs teachers are facing when implementing new literacies
- Students` awareness of citation
- Monitoring system/Blocking system
- Equipment
- Collaboration and communication with colleagues
- Support from school and parents
How to conquer these challenges?
As a teacher leader, in order to improve writing classes with new literacies, I advocate:
- Training of teaching writing to help teacher keep pace with the development of new age;
- Creating healthy environment for teachers to observe classes with each other sending practical and authentic feedback, and have open conversation to exchange thoughts. If possible, collaborate with each other to shadow students. To develop leadership and teacher power teachers need to acquire a larger perspective-an understanding of the school, including how the students see it-instead of viewing the work only from our own desks.(Steven Zemelman, 2009)
- Parents getting rid of the utilitarian attitude to their children`s writing. Learning and improving wiring is a process, and it is not realistic to expect every student to write a masterpiece after a few the writing classes. And it will be better if parents get involved in their writing, such as being their first audience and giving their feedback to their children. Just as the Common Core staters, "With students, parents, and teachers all on the same page and working together toward shared goals, we can ensure that students make progress each year and graduate from high school prepared to succeed in college, career, and life."
- Equipping the classrooms and students. Students need to have the access to both computers (or laptops, or any tablets) and Internet. Otherwise, it is impossible and meaningless for teachers to implement new literacies.
- Fostering the integrity of kids at a younger age.
